London’s nomadic bar and restaurant Night Tales has finally put down roots – in Hackney Central’s soaring railway arches.

Design studio Sella Concept has transformed two of the industrial arches for the project, which moonlights as a 300-person capacity club with outdoor drinking and dining areas, as well as an izakaya-style Japanese grill and a pizza parlour.

Says practice co-founder Tatjana von Stein: ‘We wanted to stay away from the usual East London bar aesthetic (industrial and foraged chic) and the traditional Japanese theme, so we pushed the perimeters of both.’

A circular entrance leads into the venue’s 4,000 sq ft garden oasis, which is planted with peach coloured resin day beds and private booths, whose arched forms homage to the railway setting.

Elsewhere, a 9-metre concrete cocktail bar is backed by waterfall feature, commanding centre stage in the London restaurant, while cherry timber and burnt wood finished nod to Japanese design.
