The midcentury home of the late composer Paul Buckmaster has gone on sale in Los Angeles for $1.385m.

Dating back to 1957, number 2621 La Cuesta in Nichols Canyon is thought to be the earliest collaboration between architects Conrad Buff and Donald Hensman, best known for their post-and-beam dwellings.

The single-storey Modernist property features the duo’s signature clean lines and flat roof design, with cantilevered overhangs and an open-plan interior layout.

The Grammy-award winning Buckmaster – who hailed from London and worked with Elton John, David Bowie and The Rolling Stones, among others – preserved the 1,540 sq ft Los Angeles property’s mid-century features, including wood-panelled walls and exposed interior beams.

Sliding glass doors across the mid-century property open interiors up to the private pool and landscaped half-acre grounds. Its two bedrooms have floor-to-ceiling glass windows to frame views of the surrounding canyons. Not everything is original however: the kitchen and bathrooms have been updated.

Buckmaster passed away last year, and his estate is leading the sale. Richard Stearns and Carrie Berkman Lewis of Pacific Union International have the listing.
