A Stockholm office has been transformed into a colour-drenched home by Note Design Studio – now on the market for 24m SEK.

The Ostermälm space was once used as the headquarters for a fashion brand, and lacked bathrooms, a kitchen or room for storage – until the Swedish practice gave it a top-to-toe overhaul.

Note Design Studio stripped back layers of white paint that had been hiding many of its 19th-century features, exposing wooden floors, decorative mouldings and traditional tiled stoves with intricate patterns.

During the renovation process, a wall was torn down, revealing traces of original mustard yellow paint on a door frame, which ended up being the basis for its eight-tone colour palette – along with the greens and pinks of the stoves.

The studio installed new walls to create a more homely layout for the 180 sq m space, now on the market via Lagerlings. Meanwhile geometrically patterned cabinets are inspired by the criss-cross lines of existing parquet flooring.

‘Since we aimed to disturb the original features of the apartment as little as possible, all new elements were placed in the spaces between the old ornaments,’ says interior architect Sanna Wåhlin. ‘All cabinets designed for the apartment hover on the walls between baseboards and stucco, or are free-standing on the floors.’

The four-bedroom Stockholm property’s pale wooden floors are contrasted by decorative doorways, walls and cabinets in pastel green and yellow, with a flash of pink here and there. A minimal kitchen features a terrazzo counter, and the living room opens out onto a pair of balconies.
