Sonos has unveiled its new acoustically-tuned Covent Garden store, which draws on the comforts of home to create the ultimate listening experience…
Instead of the usual glass and metal, the speaker brand has created a space that’s packed with creature comforts – soft seating, shelves of books and prints on the walls, and custom furniture designed by British brand Deadgood.
Its centrepiece is a pair of cabins where guests can listen to their own music in a space that reminds them of home.
‘The use of materials throughout such as white walls, oak veneer tables, wallpapers and panelling reflect a domesticity that is comfortable and inspiring,’ says general manager Whitney Walker.
Every single part of the space has been ‘sonically tuned’ by sound engineers, and textures, bevelled glass, hand-woven rugs and shelving have all been chosen to boost the listening experience.
The store, located in Covent Garden’s Seven Dials, is Sonos’ first of its kind in Europe, and offers space for exhibitions and screenings, as well as for visitors to browse.
Sonos also partnered with London designers Camille Walala and Neil Raitt to ‘tap into the smaller details’ of a real domestic setting. Walala has applied her signature graphic patterns, while Raitt has installed paintings of cabins, mountains and trees to bring ‘an atmospheric effect of landscape’.
The rooms are set to be updated again next year, become a canvas for a revolving set of local artists.
Sonos has several events planned for the store, the first of which will celebrate David Bowie and his influence on contemporary creators. Another concept store is planned for Berlin in 2018.
