Bluff House was designed by architect Robert Young as a space in which to soak up the views, sounds and smells of the Montauk coastline.
The modern holiday home – for sale via Corcoran for $5.45m – sits on a hill overlooking Block Island Sound and is bordered on three sides by water, wetlands, and woods. Built in 2002, it was devised to have minimal impact on nature.
Says Young: ‘The house was conceived as a lens, continually framing and magnifying the subtle changes in the surrounding environment.’
All of its four bedrooms look out towards the water, while living spaces open onto decked terraces. The Montauk property – located at 35 Wills Point Road – also comes with a gunite pool and access to the beach on Fort Pond Bay. It backs onto 174 acres of nature reserve, should you tire of lounging by the pool or swimming in the sea.
