What do you do when your property won’t sell? If you’re Johnny Depp, you double the price.

The actor has just re-listed the estate he owns in the South of France for $55.5 million, adding nearly $30m to its original price tag.

Depp’s 27-acre village comprises more than a dozen structures, including a five-bedroom home, artist studio, two swimming pools, a converted chapel, laundry building and restaurant. He is reported to have spent more than $10m restoring the buildings – many of which have been designed to resemble local businesses – since he bought the complex in 2011.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star tried selling the estate, which is around 17 miles from Saint-Tropez, in June 2015 via Côte d’Azur Sotheby’s International Realty for the more modest sum of $26m.

This time, Realtor Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, is handling the sale on behalf of the actor. He told the Wall Street Journal: ‘Mr. Depp feels that €50 million is the appropriate price for this asset.’

Meanwhile Depp, who is currently in the midst of divorcing actress Amber Heard, is also selling his 17th century Venice mansion Palazzo Dona Sangiantoffetti via Lionard for offers over $10m.
