The architect who redesigned the Googleplex in Silicon Valley has placed his West Hollywood home on the market.

Clive Wilkinson revamped the internet giant’s HQ back in 2005 and has also been credited with pushing the boundaries for creative workplace design with his work for several ad agencies. His LA abode on Norwich Drive was the first house he ever designed.

‘It’s very much a modest house, from the materials to the avoidance of using too much water,’ Wilkinson told the Wall Street Journal. ‘Having respect for the location is important.’

The house sits on a semi-desert landscape so Wilkinson planted olive groves around the property to compensate for the lack of grass.

Inside the 3,300 sq ft home, the architect designed the space with entertaining in mind – so much so that friends referred to the house as ‘Club Clive’. The kitchen, dining and living areas connect seamlessly and spill out to the outdoor area, which features a 48 ft swimming pool.

Elsewhere, a studio occupies the mezzanine level while one of the property’s three bedrooms can also be used as a library.

Adds Wilkinson: ‘What is unique about the house is that it’s genuinely a tranquil oasis in the middle of the epicentre of the arts and fashion area of Melrose and the centre of West Hollywood.’

The home is available to buy for $4.5 million via the John Aaroe Group.
