One of Amsterdam’s oldest hospitals is now a coworking hub

The 170-year-old Prisengracht Hospital in Amsterdam has been reborn as a coworking space – and its interiors take notes from Italy’s grand palazzos.

Built in 1850 during a cholera outbreak, the hospital has undergone a complete renovation by MVSA Architects to turn it into Fosbury & Sons’ first coworking hub outside of Belgium. False walls have been removed to reveal original panelling and ornamentation, and glass meeting rooms installed – to avoid altering the existing structure.

Fosbury & Sons appointed regular collaborators Going East to overhaul the canalside building’s interiors, mixing old and new.

The studio set out to create the feeling of an Italian palazzo, reinstalling parquet flooring and purposefully leaving some sections of the ceiling in an artfully dilapidated state. Steel frame furniture and minimal light fittings contrast the period architecture.

Members of the Fosbury & Sons coworking hub have access to the office and its meeting rooms, as well as the cafe, set inside a walled garden.
